Teja (S17) Red Chillies

Introduction & History

The Teja chilli (S17) is one of the hottest and most popular red chilli varieties grown in India. Known for its fiery pungency, bold flavor, and rich aroma, Teja has earned global recognition among spice lovers. Its vibrant red color and intense heat make it a favorite in Indian, Asian, and Mexican cuisines, where high pungency is essential.

Chillies were first introduced to India by Portuguese traders in the 16th century, but over centuries, varieties like Teja have become deeply rooted in Indian agriculture — particularly in the southern states.
